TORONTO, ON - Today, Mayoral Candidate Rob Davis called for greater public input into the redevelopment of the Ontario Science Centre and Ontario Place.
“Downtown elites want to concentrate cultural amenities in the City’s core without first engaging in a proper dialogue”, said Davis. “I call on both the Premier and City Council to immediately halt any plans until a proper public consultation has taken place.”
Davis’ comments followed a recent announcement by Ontario Premier Doug Ford to relocate the Ontario Science Centre from a suburban part of the city to Toronto’s waterfront at Ontario Place.

“When I was a Councillor during amalgamation, many residents were concerned they would be treated as second-class citizens - and rightfully so. Time and again, we see decisions being made that benefit those downtown at the expense of the rest of the city. This is just the latest example,” said Davis.
“Every resident deserves to have a say in what their community looks like - regardless of whether or not they can afford to live downtown,” added Davis. “As Mayor, I will always stand up for suburban Toronto residents - including those in Scarborough, Etobicoke, and North York.”
“If we want a safer, cleaner, and kinder city, we need a Mayor who is not afraid to challenge the Premier when he’s off side - and who will represent those living on Main Street rather than those working on Bay Street.”
